Abstract
To investigate the clinical characteristics of open patella fracture and factors related with the prognsis of patient, thirty six patients who had an open patella fracture were treated at Taegu catholic University Hospital from 1 January 1986 to
31
December 1991. The prognostic factors examined were age, sex, fracture type, cause of fracture, the time interval between injury and operation, type of open wound, and method of treatment.
Of thirty patients with an open patella fracture, thirty one (86.1%) was man. Of 31 male patients, 61.3% was 20~39 aged. The most frequent type of fracture was comminuted fracture(46.2%).
Seventy five percent of all patients had a good prognosis after treatment. The cause of fracture was significantly associated with the prognosis(P<0.1).
That is to say, the percentage of good prognosis in the traffic accident patient with an open patela fracture(63.3%) was sugnificantly lower than that(100%) in those patients who had an open patella frascture by fall down or slip down or direct
impact.
However age, sex, type of fracture, the time interval between injury and operation, type of wound, and treatment method were not significantly with the prognosis of patient.
